Junior Year

2 posts in 1 day because I finally have free time.

As this academic year comes to a close, I find myself thinking about how it was the best year yet. Granted, I say that about every year, but I'm so thankful for the people I met this year, the fun times I've had, and everything I learned. Even though it's difficult to say goodbye to some of my wonderful senior friends, I know this is their time to shine and they are going out to do wonderful things. I'm really just happy I had the opportunity to get to know them all.

I wish there was a way I could show everyone how happy I am that I came to Concordia three years ago. But I think the only way to understand it is to experience it for yourself. And it's not Concordia for everyone (obviously), but I think everyone finds that special place that feels like home. I am so happy that it is Concordia for me. Without this wonderful school and the opportunities it provides, I would never have had the chance to get to know all of these amazing people who have changed me.

A year ago, I never would have thought this year would be so awesome, but the people I surrounded myself with made it this way. I'm so happy I have the tendency to become involved with everything, because it helped me meet so many wonderful people. All of the people in my life this past year filled me with energy and helped me love life. I know this is getting cheesy, but I just really can't stress how thankful I am for everyone in my life. The support I get from my friends helps me get by. Super cheesy. But I just love you guys.

But basically, I would never have imagine the things I am planning on doing with my life, but these people have made me decide that I need to step out of my comfort zone. They have done it and I have learned from their example and now it's my turn.

So I met awesome people who did awesome things and now I get to do awesome things (like live in Maine for 2 months!). But I also made huge strides towards becoming a teacher. I had some moments where I doubted myself this year, but after getting some experience in the classroom I know I am doing the right thing. I learned to much about what it means to be a teacher and how to make my students my number one priority. Now I get to student teach in the fall and learn even more about what it takes to be a teacher. I love learning.

This has been a wonderful year and I can truly say that I feel blessed by the people I was surrounded by including my friends, professor, family, students, and mentors. I can't wait to see what next year has in store!

I should have just gone to bed the night before I flew back to Minnesota for Christmas Vacation. Instead, I read through my journal for 2016 and then I spent the whole night digesting every thought I had over the course of the year and got ZERO sleep. Sometimes it feels silly to have a journal. It feels like I'm reverting back to the 6th grade girl who writes about the boy she likes and the fight she had with her dad. But mostly, it's a great way to remind myself of my experiences and my feeling about those experiences. Thoughts on Expectations

The world would be such a different place if there were no expectations. There would be so much less disappointment. When you think about it, most disappointment stems from some sort of expectation. We wouldn’t fail because we couldn’t expect something to be better than reality. I know that this is fairly negative thinking and there is a completely different side to the idea of expectations but I challenge you to look at things in a different light. Imagine life as a child who knows nothing, expects nothing of the world. They live their lives in constant wonder. Life is a one big surprise to them. How cool is that? If we expect nothing from a day, then waking up is a miracle in itself. Adventure Time

As I sit in the airport, by myself, after a few weeks of relaxing at home, I’m pretty excited to take off on my next adventure-- excited and also incredibly terrified. On one hand, this is a great opportunity and I’m sure it is an experience I will cherish forever. I get to take a break from the norm. I get to spend a significant amount of time across the country surrounded by people who are presumably fun and outgoing (I’m making this assumption based on the fact that we all want to spend our entire summer hanging out with kids). I get to try new things. I get to eat fresh lobster. I get to try logrolling. I get to hang out with kids and play volleyball on the beach of a gorgeous lake. Not only is Maine supposedly breathtakingly beautiful, but it’s different from everything I know.
