2015

I can't believe that 2015 is already over. It seems like just yesterday that I was struggling to remember to write 2015 on my checks in mid-March. I think the more that happens in one year, the faster it goes. Or maybe it always goes fast. Maybe life never slows down.

Meh. I could talk about that all day and never get anywhere, so instead I'll just reflect on this crazy beautiful life and hope that it continues to stay that way- even if it does go by too quickly.

Here's a list of my 2015 in number format (Thanks Kate Bjelde for this awesome idea!)

Countries: 5
I finally got to put my Christmas gift from last year to good use! My passport now has several more stamps in it (and even a Work Visa!) than it did last year at this time. I was fortunate enough to visit Italy, Croatia, Germany, Greece, and Mexico! My travels have taught me that there is so much that this world has to offer us and it's up to us to take advantage of it.

Flights: 18
For a girl who was terrified to fly without her mom last June, I've done alright this year. As I mentioned, I had the opportunity to visit several new countries, but within the United States I traveled to both Boston and Vegas! And of course, my new move to Mexico has me flying home to visit. Quite different than the 3.5 hour drive home from Moorhead, but the weather in Torreon makes it worth it. I guess it's a good thing I decided to overcome my fear of flying (or really just living) without my mom.

Thursday Nights at Mick's: 14
This seems like the best way to highlight the fact that I graduated this year because if I included the loans I've started paying back my tears would ruin my keyboard. With that being said, I wouldn't trade my time at Concordia for anything. Especially my nights at Mick's. Concordia is a special place with special professors and even more special friends. I'm thankful for my education and the memories I made with my best friends.

Jobs: 8
Graduating from college was cool, but working my ass off my last semester was significantly less cool. Of course, I already mentioned my awesome travels and I think that everyone should know that I make my life happen. Never underestimate the value of hard work. Sure, doubles on Saturdays sucked, but my tips paid my way to see the world. Plus, I mostly just don't know what I would do without work. I like doing cool things and there's only one way to do it; I'm just thankful I've had some great jobs with great people.

Miles: 755.4
Still running. Still loving (and kinda hating) it.
I finished my first marathon this year. And I even finished in my goal range! Which is a miracle after binge drinking my way through my last semester of college, but hey, anything is possible I guess.

Students Who Have My Heart: 98
This is a weird thing to say, but I'm hopelessly in love with 98 10th graders.
This year marks my first year as a real life teacher. And it's hard. It's so hard. Nobody really tells you how hard it is until you're doing it. But I love it. I was terrified of 10th grade (mostly because I'm the 22 year-old version of a 10th grader), but my students make me laugh every day. They make me cry every other day. They even sometimes take me seriously when I say things to them. All I want in life right now is for my students to learn and to like it. And I'm trying so hard and I love it. Being a teacher is easily the coolest thing I've ever done. And I'm so happy about it.
And even though it's weird to say that I'm in love with a bunch of 10th graders, I wouldn't have it any other way.

2015 was easily the best year of my life, which is weird because I didn't really think it could get any better. But it really does just keep getting better. Even though the world around us seems to be falling apart, we cannot discount our personal journeys. This crazy world is only going to keep getting worse and it's up to us to keep our own chins up.

Super  cheesy, but still true. That's me ;)

Happy New Year to you. And if you're reading this, you must be an important in my life so I wish you all the best in 2016. Make this life what you want!
