Mexico
Life has been too crazy to document on my blog for the past few months, but here is a quick recap:
-Graduated from college in May with a degree in Communication Arts and Literature Education (Quite the mouthful)
-I turned 22 (And my friends threw me an awesome surprise party-- I cried.)
-I ran a marathon (I think I blogged about that, but I still like to say it as much as possible.)
-I traveled Europe (Italy, Croatia, and Greece) with one of my best friends (This warrants a post of its own, but like I said, life has been busy!)
-I had one of the best summers yet!
-I moved to Mexico and started my first big girl job!
The last one is probably the biggest thing in life right now- for obvious reasons. The months between signing my contract and actually moving down here were a rollercoaster of emotions. I would go from anxiety to excitement in a matter of minutes. Huge thank you to anyone who talked to me during one of these rollercoaster moments (mostly looking at you, Wendy!) because I have now been down here for a little over a week and I am so happy with my decision to chase adventure.
I was surprisingly calm in the week leading up to my big move, but I think that's mostly because I had a killer party to think about. It was indeed a killer party, but the time came for me to get serious about packing. As anyone who has ever moved or traveled or done anything that requires any sort of packing knows, packing is a dreadful task that must get done sooner or later. I started early, but still procrastinated the majority of my packing until Sunday night. Thankfully Mama Bear came to the rescue and helped me pack.
I showed up in Mexico on a Monday and by Wednesday I was already feeling a little at home (or as at home as you can feel in a foreign country where they don't speak your language). My fellow teachers have been so incredibly welcoming. They took us around the city and helped us get set up with cellphones and groceries. It was a huge relief coming here and getting taken care of. My apartment is completely furnished and although it's just me for now, I'm hoping to foster a dog sometime after Christmas maybe. The school does an excellent job in making sure their staff feels at home in their homes. They also do an excellent job making sure their staff feels supported at school.
As a first year teacher it's easy to stress about all of the politics of teaching that I've never really had to consider. I was freaking out a lot about this, but then my department chair reminded me that it's not easy your first year. It's going to be a tough year, but I guess I kinda knew that I wasn't doing this because it was easy. I had my first day of school today and I'm so excited to see what this year has in store for me and my 10th graders. They are all funny and oh so chatty, but I'm sure they're just as eager to learn as I am to teach.... At least that's the dream.
Anyway, this post was super random and not specific, but there should be more to come... Stay tuned.
