1,000 Things

We are constantly reminded how important it is to count our blessings and realize all the fantastic things we have in our life to be thankful for. After all, not everyone in the world is as privileged as we are. I'm not saying that to sound snotty, I'm saying it because it's true. Anyway, it's a fact that there are a lot of things to be thankful for. But have you ever thought about ALL of these things?

I bought a devotional for the coming year titled "One Thousand Gifts"  by Ann Voskamp. It's somewhat of a prequel to her book with the same title. The subtitle of the book is: "Reflections on Finding Everyday Graces." So far I am really enjoying it. It helps me remember to take a step back and appreciate everything this beautiful world has to offer. There are some great devos to do whenever I feel like it, but that is not the only part of this book that intrigues me.

The biggest reason I chose this particular devo is because of the fact that there is 1,000 blank spaces for you to write things you're thankful for. The idea is that by the end of the year, you have filled up all of these spaces-- obviously. What a great concept, right?! 1,000 things you are thankful for! How cool. No. Not true. Well, it is cool, it's actually amazing, but I don't think anyone has ever thought about how difficult it is to come up with 1,000 things. I'm on #91 and it's been a struggle. You wouldn't think it would be so hard, but it is. Mostly because I feel like I shouldn't write down stupid things. But there are no stupid things, they're just little things. And I should be thankful for every little thing.

While this may be a challenge, it's also a great way to remember how great life is. When I have a bad day, it helps to remember all the things I have to be thankful for-- no matter how little they might be.

Don't forget to count your blessings, folks. The world is a beautiful place. Acknowledge it.
