If You Want To Be Happy, Be.
The Dalai Lama once said, "The purpose of our lives is to be happy." And I think this quote sums up my life, and should probably sum up the lives of more people in the world. Regardless of your religious beliefs, I strongly feel that the we are all here to be happy. Sure, we all have different plans to find our happy, but in the end I think we are all meant to be happy with the way things turned out.
I'm generally a pretty happy person, at least that's what I hear. And I do think it's true- to an extent. I do get down occasionally. But usually if you see me sad/mad, I'm trying to be that way because I feel like I have a reason to feel that way. Don't ask me why I do it, because I really don't have a valid explanation, but I do. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that's how the world has shaped our society. People are always complaining about something in the world, no matter how big or small the issue is. You turn on the news and all you see is the negatives. People have forgotten how beautiful life really is.
I do my best to not let things affect me too much but it's hard to be tough all the time. I'm almost always happy with the things I am doing in my life, but I would say that I let others get to me.
Whether it's others putting me down or simply putting others' happiness before my own, I've noticed that that tends to be my biggest downfall. I'm constantly doing things to try and make others happy. When it's a stranger who might be having a rough day it's fine, but when it's the people I care about the most and it's all the time it gets to be a little tiring. Don't get me wrong, I love making others happy, it would just be nice to have the favor returned once in a while. I'm kind of talking about small favors you might expect would be returned, but sometimes it's more than that. It's putting their feelings before my own and that's when it turns into an issue.
Obviously we should want to make the special people in our life happy, but sometimes it can be too much. And you might have to really sit down and think about whether or not it is worth it. And while you're thinking about that, you have to put the opinion of everyone else on the back burner. When making important decisions regarding your life, it's okay to take into consideration what others have to say, but ultimately it is up to YOU and what will make YOU happy.
I guess what I'm trying to say is sometimes it's just something you gotta do. And if it makes you happy, then you just need to do it. Even if others don't agree. Happiness should be something everyone gets to share with everyone else. And it's up to you to make sure you're happy with way your life is going, so that in the end, you're happy with the result. I know this was a blog post full of clichés, but maybe it will help you think about how happy you are.
